| Advisory Group |
The Advisory Group met for the first time in May 2004 for a three day event based at the Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre in Ennerdale. The group spent the first evening listening to the partners explain the Wild Ennerdale process so far. The second day was spent in the valley enjoying a 12 mile hike along the length and width of the valley exploring specific areas associated with the future of the forest, the role of grazing animals and natural processes. The final morning was spent in group discussion outside in the sunshine brainstorming and producing a summary of the many issues raised over the preceding days. The Advisory group met for a second time in September 2007 with a similar format to the previous event. The Wednesday evening was spent reviewing progress and updating on work completed since 2004 (evening presentation 2.4mb pdf). The second day saw the group enjoy a 9 mile trek up to the southern ridge to look at boundary issues with stops along the way to discuss extensive grazing by cattle, archeology, fencing and the sub alpine flora. On the way down from the ridge the group saw harvesting work below Wind Gap Cove and reaffirmed the importance of controlling spruce. The Friday was spent gathering together everyone's thoughts into a summary of the event The partners are very grateful to all those who attended and offered their help since. |
