Harvest time in the 1950'sEnnerdale is constantly changing and developing as the landscape and ecology react in response to society's changing demands and desires. Most of the time the changes are so slow that we do not notice them. However by looking back at old photos we get a sense of how the valley has changed and perhaps an insight into where the landscape may change in the future. Thanks to the work of many photographers and occasional painters this section of our website provides a unique opportunity to look back in time over roughly the last 100 years or so. Please choose a period in time from the options below.

The Wild Ennerdale Partnership is grateful to all those photographers and publishers who have given their permission for their photos to be used. If you see your photo here and have not given the Partnership permission please accept our apologies, we have not been able to trace all the copyright owners and hope that you will understand the desire we have to give visitors to this website the opportunity to see historic views of the valley. Please contact us so we can discuss how we may continue to use your photos.

If you have some photos of the valley not represented here and are willing to let us exhibit your collection please contact us as we would really like to give everyone the chance to see how the valley has changed and developed.
