Employment

shearing sheepEnnerdale has provided for people for many centuries, whether through farming, mining, quarrying or forestry. More recently, greater opportunities for education, learning and tourism have been recognised.

The partners are committed to ensuring that the valley continues to provide a sustainable living for people and where possible, will seek to expand those opportunities without impinging on the valleys 'wild' qualities.

Incorporated into our Stewardship Plan for the valley are options for farm diversification; seeking local markets for timber, charcoal wool and meat for example, together with creating greater interaction between farming, forestry and recreation.
